I started teaching at 24. I taught 9th – 11th grade at a private school in Orange County, CA. I taught 6 classes, 4 different preps, in 6 different class rooms, with zero free time during the day. Thinking that all teaching couldn’t be that bad, I found an amazing job at a private school in Los Angeles where I worked for 4 years. After making a difficult decision, I moved back home to Texas where I now teach at a private school. I teach Honors Geometry, Multivariable Calculus, and am the Mathematics Chair for our K – 12 math program. I am trying to find a way to create a rigorous math program that does not compromise the beauty and fun of the subject. The question at the forefront of my mind for this year is: What will students remember from my class 10 years from now?
This is my driving motivation. And I don’t yet know the answer.
